Celebrate safe
A few simple habits keep every sparkle joyful. Read them once with the family before the first match is struck.
Do
- Buy crackers from licensed sellers and read the instructions on each pack.
- Burst crackers in an open area, away from houses, dry leaves, vehicles and electric wires.
- Keep two buckets ready — one of water and one of sand.
- Use a long agarbatti to light, keeping your face and body at arm's length.
- Light one cracker at a time and step back quickly.
- Wear cotton clothes and footwear; tie back long hair and dupattas.
- Let an adult light crackers — children watch from a safe distance.
- Drop used sparkler wires into the water bucket to cool.
Don't
- Don't hold crackers in your hand or lean over them while lighting.
- Don't try to relight a cracker that failed — wait, then soak it in water.
- Don't burst crackers indoors, in narrow lanes, or near hospitals and petrol bunks.
- Don't throw crackers at people, animals or vehicles.
- Don't keep crackers in pockets or near a lamp, stove or diya.
- Don't light rockets near trees, wires or buildings, or aim them sideways.
- Don't make your own crackers or open them to mix powders.
- Don't burst crackers outside the hours allowed in your area.
